Cutting Edge Counsel For The Marijuana Industry
August 25, 2016
Friends,
The Thornton City Council recently voted to allow limited commercial marijuana in the City of Thornton.
While commercial grows and MIPs will not be allowed, Thornton will allow a total of four dispensaries, one in each of the four quadrants of the city. No applicant will be able to hold more than one of the four dispensary licenses, which can be medical, recreational, or combined use. The determination of which applicants ultimately receive one of the four dispensary licenses will be based on a point system that considers a multitude of factors, including prior industry experience and compliance, criminal history, Thornton residency, and operating plans. This process will be similar to the Aurora competitive application process.
There are no limits for the number of testing facility licenses that may be issued.
Thornton will begin accepting licenses September 1, 2016. The deadline to apply is October 1, 2016. Applicants must pass a zoning review prior to applying. For more information see: http://www.denverpost.com/2016/08/23/thornton-says-yes-to-marijuana-sales/
McAllister Law Office is excited to see another jurisdiction move away from prohibition and embrace our growing industry. Please contact us if you are interested in applying for one of these new licenses.
Sincerely,
Sean T. McAllister, Esq.
